Introduction
This page is a collection of comments and pictures relating to places and countries I have visited over the years in Africa. For the full list, see the travel index.
Gambia
The Gambia
is a tiny sliver of land in western Africa. It is located on either side of the
River Gambia
, enclosed to the north, south and east by Senegal, and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The main attraction for most Europeans is the excellent climate and comparatively short journey time compared with Caribbean destinations. For more images, try this Google image search

Kenya
The first visit was via Nairobi
to the coastal town of Malindi, staying at
Scorpio Villas
. After venturing south to the
Watamu Marine Park
and the reef to do some snorkeling, I headed inland to see wildlife in the
Tsavo East
game reserve. One night was spent at the unusual
Salt Lick Safari Lodge
, and the other was spent at the
Taita Hills Safari Lodge
. For more images, try this Google image search
The second visit was a beach holiday, based in Malindi, but with trips south to the beautiful reef at Watamu for snorkelling.

Tunisia
Tunisia is located in North Africa, and was my first non-European travel destination. Most of the time was spent at the coastal town of Monastir
, near
Sousse
, but I also travelled north to Tunis, and south to
El Djem
,
Matmata
,
Tataouine
,
Sfax
and
Gabes
